Air Motor
Academic Work
2014
In a Mechanical Synthesis course project, my team and I created a motor that converts compressed air to crankshaft rotation in accordance with a customer problem statement and performance benchmarks. After deciding on a two-piston, two-stroke rotary valve design, I helped complete calculations for the motor consisting of classical mechanics and thermodynamics concepts along with stress, cost, and environmental analyses. I was also responsible for modeling our design in SOLIDWORKS, fabricating parts via a metal lathe and mill, and conducting tests to quantify the motor’s performance.
